Cristalleries de Manage/Pavillons(Manage, 1880-1973) Gobeleteries & Cristalleries du Centre, a Manage changed their name in 1885 to Cristalleries de Manage and became part of the Pavillons company (who also owned the Verreries de Beignée in Ham-sur-Heure) from 1924-1954. They produced mostly pressed glass and bottles in Beignée, whie Manage focussed on blown-glass and gobleterie. After a slump in 1951, it was sold Durobor in 1954 and continued making blown glass until 1973. Verreries & Bouteilleries de Beignée/Pavillons (Ham-sur-Heure,1922-1957) Founded 1911, became Pavillons in 1922 and then took over Cristalleries de Manage in 1924. Mainly produced pressed glass and bottles in Beignée (while crystal and blown glass was mostly produced in Manage, 25 km away). The site stopped production in 1954. In an article by Michèle Thiry (2002), the registered trademarks include 'Belge', 'VPB Belgique' 'Pavilia', 'Fabrication Belge Garantie' (with P-logo in a round frame), and 'Pavillons - Made in Belgium'. Although the factory is known to have produced pressed glass, there was no information available which allowed collectors to identify examples of their work. Recent research has led to some new discoveries. With help from Pamela Wessendorf and Eliane Bragard we've started to trace items which reveal the range of designs that were made in this factory. It appears that Pavillon's pressed glass was mostly executed at the Verreries de Beignée in Ham-sur-Heure, 25 km south of the sister factory in Manage. It is sometimes marked VPB, PAVILLONS, PAVILIA or PAVILUX. Their identified marks on pressed glass include 'FABRICATION BELGE' and 'BELGE' which had been noted as a common and hithertoe puzzling mark as well as FAIT EN BELGIQUE and MADE IN BELGIUM . It is not yet clear how many other patterns from our 'Belge Marks' page we will be able to move onto this page as the history unfolds. The patterns shown on this page have also been identified from literature and/or have marks which clearly identify them. |
